On 8 December 2017 the Norwegian government decided that 2 x 30 MHz in the 700 MHz band shall be made available for commercial operators. The decision is in accordance with the Norwegian Communications Authority's (Nkom) recommendation to the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the joint recommendation from the Directorate for Civil Protection (DSB) and Nkom that the next-generation emergency communications network should be realized within commercial networks. Nkom will now continue with preparations towards the assignment of the 700 MHz band.

In collaboration with NTV, NRK, RiksTV and Norkring, the Norwegian Communications Authority (Nkom) has prepared a report examining the technical consequences for the digital terrestrial television network if the 700 MHz band (694-790 MHz) is being assigned to mobile services in the future. In addition, on commission from Nkom, Nexia AS has prepared a report estimating the costs of five different technical scenarios for the digital terrestrial television network.

The Norwegian Communications Authority (Nkom) has published a new spectrum strategy for the period 2015-2016. The spectrum strategy is based on Nkom's main strategy and the main goals are that Nkom is up to date on developments, a proactive facilitator for the actors and the best source of knowledge for all issues concerning frequency management.

The Norwegian Post and Telecommunications Authority (NPT) has decided to postpone the 1800 MHz auction. The auction was scheduled for January 2015.

The Norwegian Post and Telecommunications Authority (NPT) has decided to award the three available blocks in the 1800 MHz band by multiround ascending auction. The frequencies are the unsold blocks from the multiband auction in December 2013. The preliminary timeline for the award is now available.

The spectrum to be sold in the auction is the unsold spectrum from the multiband auction in December 2013. The Norwegian Post and Telecommunications Authority (NPT) now consults the market on the framework of the auction. The deadline for submitting responses is 2 May 2014.

The first phase of the 800, 900 and 1800MHz auction is now completed. TeliaSonera, Telenor and Telco Data have won spectrum in the auction. The coverage obligation block was won by TeliaSonera who will be obliged to provide services to 98 percent of the population within five years. The final phase of the auction to determine the specific frequency positions of spectrum won will be conducted next week.
