The Norwegian Communications Authority (Nkom) will award approximately 2 x 20 MHz in the 900 MHz band. The frequencies are currently assigned to TeliaSonera Norge AS and Telenor ASA. The licenses expire 31 December 2017. According to plan the auction will be conducted summer 2016.

The auction was conducted 2 to 10 December 2013. TeliaSonera, Telenor and Telco Data won spectrum in the auction. TeliaSonera won the coverage block and are therefore obliged to undertake the coverage obligation to cover 98 % of the population within five years after the award with a service with an average downstream bitrate of 2 Mbit/s. Four bidders in total participated in the auction. The total revenue for all the spectrum amounts to 1 784 702 000 NOK.

Auction number five was the first online frequency auction where simultaneous multiple bidding rounds were used in Norway. The auction format was called "simultaneous multiple round auction with switching (SMRA)". This auction format has later been used in allocation of frequency resources in other countries. Auction number five had 87 rounds and lasted for eight days.

In Norway's fourth frequency auction available resources in the 450 MHz-band that prior had been used for NMT450 by Telenor ASA, was auctioned off. The licence was assigned to Nordisk Mobiltelefon AS, who was the only bidder in the auction.
