Interference issues related to a future LTE network in the frequency band 790-862 MHz

NPT refers to chapter 7.1 in the Ministry of Transport and Communications’ public consultation regarding the award of spectrum in the 800 MHz band which concerns measures for protecting reception of the digital terrestrial broadcast service (DVB-T).

In the public consultation, the Ministry states that DVB-T in the frequency band 470-790 MHz shall be protected from the mobile service (LTE) operating in the frequency band 790-862 MHz. The band plan for the 800 MHz band allocates the base stations (downlink) in the lower duplex band, and it is these base stations that are the potential interferers to DVB-T.

ATDI Ltd. has, on behalf of NPT, made a study of the impact a future LTE network in the frequency band 790-862 MHz might have on the DVB-T service in the 470-790 MHz. The study also includes suggestions on how to mitigate the interference issue and the effectiveness of these.

NPT invites all interested parties to give their input or comments to the study by 5 June 2011.
